More than shoes - Torey

Earlier this year we met a homeless man near Northgate and brought him by our house so he could shower and get a bite to eat. He's a very gentle and soft spoken guy, and he happens to only have one arm. On a later visit to the house, he mentioned that he could use some new shoes. His old shoes, a pair of leather cowboy boots, were wearing thin on their soles. We found him a pair of shoes in the basement that fit him perfectly. As soon as he had asked about shoes, I was wondering to myself "how in the world is he going to tie them?" As it turns out, he was wondering the same thing. I ended up tying them for him (a little embarrassing for him I'm sure), and he figured he would be able to come up with some way to do it later on.

He was never able to figure out a good way to keep the shoes on securely, and was often embarrassed when people kept asking if they could tie them for him (despite knowing they were well-meaning). About a week ago he came by the house to clean up a bit (he absolutely hates being dirty) and asked us if we had gotten any new shoe donations. As it turns out, we had just gotten a fresh batch of shoes a few days prior, and among them were a pair that secured using a draw-cord instead of laces. They happened to be his size, and he was thrilled with him.

These shoes will not only support his feet, but it means he won't have to be reminded of his disability every time he puts them on. He told us he's in the process of getting a prosthetic arm and was recently approved for low-income housing, so things are looking better for him. Please pray that he will continue to be blessed and that he would come to know the Lord.
